A large exhibition of my paintings was on view in the Gallery Gut Gasteil near Gloggnitz in Lower Austria until November 1st, 2020.

A catalogue with photographs, comments and interviews was presented at the opening of the show.

In the peaceful ambience of a landscape infused with culture, one could view "Heimkehr in die Fremde" ("Homecoming into Exile”), an egg tempera painting from 2019, "Der Reichtum der Stille” ("The Richness of Silence"), a large pastel from Venice in 2019, and a substantial selection of works from the cycle "Innen Ansichten” ("Views from Within"), an extensive group of gouaches from 2020, all significant markings of my path.

"Building Blocks for Dreams" was the title of my exhibition of 70 paintings, which opened on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at the Tony Subal Gallery in Vienna.

On Thursday, June 13th at 7:00 p.m. as part of the exhibition´s closing festivities in the Subal Gallery the first Vienna Reading of my opera libretto "DOPPLER" took place, as performed by Helga Illich and Helmut Wiesner, with musical interludes for cello composed by Wolfgang Florey and played by Susan Salm.

Listeners were able to experience a first reading of this work within the setting of my latest paintings of the past three years.

“That paintings could serve as building blocks for a whole world of imagination, longing and dreams of reason, I wanted to see and show – a world ruled more by one’s own concepts than by the laws of Nature.
I am convinced that not only Doctor Freud would have trusted this building material more than bricks and stones.
It is my wish that these building blocks for dreams do not gain their necessary solidity from their own weight but rather from the warmth and energy within them, and I hope one can see that.”

The opening of my Exhibition "RIGHT ON THE RIM AND OTHER CYCLES" was on May 18th and lasted untill June 24th 2017.

The show got its name from the programmatic pastel-poliptych "Right on the Rim" and some egg-temperas "Isole delle Delicie" to a triptych from "Pax Veneziana" and thus gives an overview of my work of 30 Years.

There was also a considerable group of drawings, from the "Horizons" (1983) to the "Martini-Blätter" (2017).

As a surprise, the monumental "Großes Glück", a pastel-poliptych from 1990.

TRANSPARENT THINGS
Four Pastels, Venice 2016

Just imagine returning from travel caused by curiosity and a sense of estrangement and bringing with you something without weight or volume, transparent, rich and strange, something to treasure, a wonder maybe not of this world but made up of dreams. But real in a sense, and made for your senses. To make up such a - thing (?), more than a fantasy, less than an object, - would be worth my while, in fact, it was. And now these transparent pastels might be seen for what they are: a lasting fancy.

And if this is not enough, treat yourself to Nabokov´s last completed novel, "Transparent Things", lucid and funny to the end.

GREEN AT LAST
Gouaches, New York 2016

The colour green, standing in for "Nature" to satisfy a cliché, was naturally suspect to me; for this very reason I used it with care and restraint, not to feed this misunderstanding. In the group of small gouaches "Green At Last" I wanted to use the colour’s very own nature from blue-green to terre verte and olive green, to develop its specific spectrum. It would vibrate and expand in its relationship with its fellow colours, and now here it is. Painted in New York´s luminous winter of 2016 these small horizontal formats invite you to look at colour as an act of will and of love.

The Austrian PEN Club and the Presseclub Concordia celebrated in May 2014 "A FEAST FOR BEAUTY".

It took shape in the form of an exhibition of my recent drawings, including the cycle "Follow these Lines", gouaches, pastels and egg-tempera paintings and were accompanied by lectures - Rainer Bischof, Christoph Lechner and Philo Ikonya -
and the world premiere of two pieces for violoncello solo:
Susan Salm performed
* PAX VENEZIANA RISTABILITA (2013) by Rainer Bischof
and
* VIER INTERMEZZI (2013) by Wolfgang Florey

p.s. if in doubt: Beauty, shameless beauty has been the one guiding passion of my interest in art. Quoting from a catalogue edited by Angelica Baeumer 20 years ago I called it "a precise longing, which can not even be fulfilled by my own art, it much rather drives it on."
Schubert’s song "Die Taubenpost" might explain this very well.

"6 Monotypes"

Two of the suites of 6 monotypes on Somerset, ca.15" x 11", printed in November by the eminent master printer Phil Sanders at the Blackburn Press of NY, carry a hand-written text by Michael Guttenbrunner, specially translated by me, on the accompanying "ghost".

Mary Ann Caws wrote in the OXFORD MAGAZINE (winter, 2010) in "Note from New York":
"One of my favorite displays this fall was the celebration of artist's books with the infinitely valuable and very limited editions of such careful work.
We paid special attention to the David Krut gallery space, with the work of Friedrich Danielis on show.
His sensitive renderings never fail to astonish - the group gathered at his own presentation of his rare books was large and receptive.
I found his work in collaboration with his poet friends not just perfectly appropriate, but very moving."

The ATENEO VENETO presented from Dec. 15th -18th 2009 all my artists- books. They were beautifully displayed in several vitrines, grouped around the center-piece, Wolfgang Florey's "Augenspiegelblick". The Ateneo's president, Dr. Antonio Alberto Semi, introduced the 18 works in a very peronal way. Riccardo Held, the poet, then bridged language-barriers (only one book is in Italian also) graciously and opened the access to the books' ideas and aesthetics.
After a spirited discussion with the maker (me), the first performance in Italy of Florey's composition "Augenspiegelblick" played by Susan Salm closed this happy-making evening in the composer's presence.

Under the title "I WANT NOTHING FROM ABOVE" Mel contemporary gallery in Vienna showed new pastels, gouaches and drawings from May 7th to June 26th, 2009.

There were
readings (11th and 25th of May),
a concert with music I feel close to (Bischof, Florey and Mozart on May 18th)
and the presentation of my new painter´s book "Working at Krut´s"
with a screening of David Krut´s " First taxi movie" (June 15th),
all at 7 p.m.

"RIGHT ON THE RIM"

a new pastel-poliptych was the center-piece of my exhibition at Galerie Welz, Salzburg.
It was opened on February 24th 2009, lasted until March 21st and was accompanied by a folder with a programmatic text.

"Right on the Rim" is my largest pastel to date. In 9 parts, 1.40 m x 2.70 m in all, it allows me to explore large ideas not touched since "Das grosse Glück".

A publication "Fehler im System" published July 2008 by Waldstein (ISBN 978-3-8353-0327-0), contains an essay about talent and the lack of it ("Der Mangel an Talent als Wille und Vorstellung") and investigates how C.D. Friedrich and Paul Cezanne dealt with their predicament, leading to some radical observations of the creative process.

The South Africa Project in 2007 went so well that Susan Salm and I returned autumn 2008 (read my Report).
You can read about our trip 2007 in my Report or my programmatic lecture at the Wits School of Arts.

Poliptychon "Connections"

In May 2007 the eight part poliptych, egg-tempera on canvas, has been set in to the wall of an industrial building at Erdberger Laende 40-48 in the 3rd district of Vienna.
