"MANHATTAN PROJECT"
as PDF

11 gouaches on porridge paper
(format ca. 14-21 x 15,5-25cm)
are the loving reflections of a winter (2006 - 2007) in New York.

The troubling name, alluding to one of the darkest undertakings of the human mind, is my stubborn response to that fact.
Now, at least, there is the art, too, and it too stays with us.

"DANIELIS DOZEN"
as PDF

Gouaches on Richard de Bas paper,
format ca. 17 x 25.5 cm, New York 2003.

A cycle of 12 "exercises to stretch the imagination" explores the possibilities of a specific oblong format.
Each page is a completely autonomous composition that forms a harmonious and stimulating whole with the other works in the group.

"MY SEXTET"
as PDF

Gouaches on Richard de Bas paper, format ca.17 x 25 cm, New York 2005.

Six gouaches born out of my love for music, they are the result of my desire to live inside the two string sextets by Johannes Brahms.
As that turned out to be impossible I had to make my own.

"SPLIT - SECONDS"
as PDF

Diptychs in gouache on Porridge paper, format ca. 26.5x19 cm, New York 2005.
This group of six double gouaches could be seen as a "painted pun", playing with words but also with the gap between the two parts of each composition.
They are part of a larger group of double pictures (with their visual double meanings!).
This cycle is connected to an event that, in a split second, extinguished a friend´s life - it was connected to moving images in film.
Sadly beautiful, they also are second thoughts.

"MAHLEREIEN"
("Milky Way 12a")

are 36 egg-tempera paintings on canvas in various formats, Venice 2003-2005.

They are a tribute to the music of Gustav Mahler, - and to his aesthetics.
A special, handset catalogue (available in german) explains the specific titles, the relation between a painting and the (musical) composition the title refers to, and offers a glimpse into the chain of associations caused by music and words and how it affected my work.
